Hi all,

With frequent stoppages as required in public transport services within cities, is use of maglev technology really beneficial? One of its biggest advantages is speed which loses its significance to a good extent. Agree? So what minimum distance would you consider useful for best benefit from maglev? I guess it would use regenerative breaking also in either case. A ref: https://www.skytran.com/

As overnight non stop 700 km/h overnight Japanese maglev trains in single 11 psi, 14 meter diameter tunnel earn enough to make daytime fares cheaper than planes it does not really matter if there are a couple of stops in a big city as the freight which you cannot use on HSR makes it economical.

Regarding switching to the freight terminals I believe it would be very easy to just have the front wheels steerable.
