The German construction company Max Bögl is going ahead with its maglev project. The family-owned company from Neumarkt is convinced by the concept of a 36-meter-long, fully automated train with three cars, traveling at 160 kilometers per hour. The Transport System Bögl (TSB) is intended for passenger transport, primarily in local public transport. Now a version for freight transport is being added.

The mini Transrapid, which has nothing in common with the large-scale model of the failed transport project by Siemens and Thyssen in terms of technology or concept, is ready for series production and has long since received approval from the German Federal Railway Authority. Based on this, TSB Cargo has been developed as a platform without superstructures on which individual containers can be transported. The concept envisages a "space-saving and low-emission alternative to road-based transport". In a cycle time of 20 seconds, up to 180 containers per hour and direction could be transported fully electrically and autonomously at speeds of up to 150 kilometers per hour.

Maglev Cargo Transport System (TSB) in the Port of Hamburg

Unread post by Eurorapid »

From Monday, October 11, TSB Cargo, developed by the Max Bögl Group, will be presented to the world public for the first time at a specially built demonstration facility on the occasion of the ITS World Congress 2021 in Hamburg. The Federal Republic of Germany is funding the project to develop and test an alternative technology for environmentally friendly, sustainable and efficient freight transport. The go-ahead for the construction of the facility had already been given in May of this year, after the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure issued the funding decision for the funding project in March 2021.

The TSB Cargo is a track-guided, individual container transport system based on magnetic levitation. It transports containers fully automatically and quietly at speeds of up to 150 km/h. According to the manufacturer, cycle repetition times of 20 seconds are possible.

The technology of the TSB was originally developed for local passenger transport and used on a demonstration line in Chengdu, China. Further development is also taking place in China in cooperation with Chinese partners.

With the demonstration project for the ITS World Congress, adaptation to freight transport is now following. The newly founded Cargo Maglev Demonstrator GmbH takes over the project management for the TSB Cargo Demonstration Project in Hamburg and sets the course for the successful development of the system to market and series maturity.

On an area of the Cruise Center Steinwerder in the Port of Hamburg, automated operation, switching between lanes via a switch and, in particular, container handling between TSB Cargo and other transport modalities - such as trucks - will be demonstrated on a track length of around 120 meters. The system can later be used to individually transport container sizes of up to 45 feet at maximum weight.
