JR Tokai (Central Japan Railway Company) has announced a long-term vision for the future, outlining its goals and strategies over the next 30 years. With a focus on tackling challenges such as population decline and the rapid advancement of technologies like AI (Artificial Intelligence), the company has set a clear direction for the future of its business. This vision centers on diversifying services, especially in light of the full opening of the Linear Chūō Shinkansen (maglev) line.

The new vision, called "Arikitai-shi," concretely outlines the company's desired future state, emphasizing safety as the top priority. As part of its strategy, JR Tokai aims to improve transportation capacity on the Tōkaidō Shinkansen and to develop a high-speed transportation network through superconducting maglev trains. This will help meet emerging transportation demands in a society facing population decline.

The Linear Chūō Shinkansen, which will connect Tokyo and Osaka, will contribute to reinforcing Japan’s infrastructure, enhancing resilience through the creation of a dual transportation artery. The goal is to form a "Japan Central Corridor" linking Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, which is expected to stimulate new population flows around the stations along the route. Additionally, the new line will free up capacity on the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, creating opportunities for collaboration with regional areas to promote local development.

In a world where technologies like AI, ICT (Information and Communication Technology), and XR (Extended Reality) are rapidly advancing and expected to permeate daily life and work practices even more deeply, JR Tokai aims to improve the capabilities of its employees and increase operational efficiency. The company has also committed to fostering a more flexible, resilient organizational structure that can adapt to future demands.

After the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, JR Tokai is embarking on a new phase of growth, focusing on service innovation and business reforms. The company has set an ambitious target to reduce annual costs by 80 billion yen over the next 10 to 15 years. JR Tokai’s overarching goal is to provide "safe, accurate, and comfortable transportation services" and achieve sustainable growth, thereby benefiting all stakeholders involved.

Through these strategies, JR Tokai is positioning itself to not only adapt to a rapidly changing world but also to lead in the transformation of the transportation sector, enhancing both regional development and the overall efficiency of Japan’s transportation network.
