The Nagano station will be located in the suburbs of Iida City. The construction of a new linear railway station in Nagano will have a deep impact on the area and could improve the transportation network to other parts of the prefecture, thus maybe increasing the liveliness of the city.

The area to be developed is about 6.5 hectares around the station. The plans are described in the "Iida Linear Station Spatial Design Note," which was decided by Iida City already in December 2007. The plans show that there will be a massive change in the cityscape. The route of the Linear Shinkansen will cut straight through the city and be elevated on the surface through the urban area.

The offical first design policy is to create the station as a transportation plaza that integrates public transportation and a Linear Shinkansen boarding area that is easy to use for local residents. The public transportation system therefore should be integrated into a public transportation plaza and a boarding and alighting area is planned for that purpose that could be easy for local residents to use, potentially making transfers safe and convenient.

According to the plans it will be possible to smoothly transfer to the express bus and the JR Iino Line. It might also allow smooth transfers to the express bus and the JR Iino line, and facilitate access to a wider area. The new station area will also support MaaS (Mobility as a Service), a next-generation transportation service that uses the latest smartphone application technology to facilitate the movement of people. If the plans gecome reality, te station area will be a barrier-free environment that can be used in all weather conditions so that people can walk from the ticket gate to the station on a flat, roofed path to transfer.

As a space that can be used conveniently in daily life, a lawn area and a water basin might be placed to take advantage of the topography, and facilities for "sending out attractions" are placed in the retail space under the large roof. The space under the elevated railway tracks is said to become a "place for everyone" where people can gather regardless of the weather, including waiting facilities and information.

An event space under a large roof might become a space for local residents to hold community activities such as events and functions. As a space where people can feel the history of their daily lives, a community plaza with existing warehouses is set to be created.

[JP] Groundbreaking Ceremony for Linear Nagano Station to be Held on December 22, 2022

Groundbreaking Ceremony for Linear Nagano Station to be Held on December 22, 2022

On December 22, JR Tokai will hold a groundbreaking ceremony in Iida City to pray for the safety of the Nagano Station (tentative name) of the Linear Central Shinkansen Line. This will be a milestone in the construction of the Linear Line within the prefecture, but concerns about noise problems in the Zakouji area around the station after its opening have not been resolved. In the same vicinity, the Kamiigo Iinuma Hojo district is facing eviction, and the rising cost of materials is putting pressure on residents and developers who are dissatisfied with the cost of compensation. With the problems remaining, the construction of the entire station area, including peripheral improvements, is now in full swing.

According to JR Tokai, the station-related work to be started first includes the replacement of the Shindo River and the Ryusei Consolidation Canal, and the construction of a new bridge over the Tsuchisogawa River, which must be started before the widening of National Route 153. In the Kamigo section of the Fugetsuzan Tunnel on the west side of the station in the prefecture, construction of a construction yard (workshop) and excavation of work tunnels to carry out overburden will also begin in sequence. Meanwhile, the city is planning to construct a 6.5-hectare area around the station, including a parking lot and plaza, and hopes to begin construction next fall. The city plans to start construction next fall. In the area, approximately 190 residences and 100 offices will be relocated to accommodate the linear main line, station area improvements, road widening, etc., and approximately 80% of them have already been chosen.

Utilization of space under the elevated Nagano Station and consideration of secondary transportation to be promoted from a broad regional perspective

As part of the project to develop the area around the Linear Central Shinkansen Station (Zakouji, Kamiigo Iinuma, Iida City), the City will establish a new forum to study the use of space under the elevated tracks of Nagano Prefectural Station and access to the station. The new forum will be established as the "Linear Central Shinkansen Line Development Committee".

The new councils will be the "Station Square Utilization Study Council" and the "Linear Station Access Study Council," which will be composed of members from the Shimoina area, the prefecture, and municipalities in the Kamiina area. The city will serve as the secretariat.

The area under the elevated tracks where the ticket gates are located is approximately 3,000 square meters. The Station Square Utilization Study Meeting will share the status of the city's study and discuss the required functions and direction of services. Depending on the progress of the study, subcommittees will be formed to discuss immigration and settlement, bi-regional exchange, sightseeing and experience, and inbound travel information.

The Linear Station Access Study Council will consider secondary and tertiary transportation between the station and surrounding areas.

Both committees will be established early in the next fiscal year, with the station plaza to be considered by September 2013, and the committee hopes to incorporate the results into the design of amenities to promote attraction. The Access Study Council hopes to finalize the development elements of the station plaza by the end of FY2013.

The opinions expressed at the meeting will be reflected in the development of the station plaza after a policy decision is made by the Promotion Council (tentative name), which will be established separately by the city. Hitoshi Hosoda, director of the Linear Promotion Department, said, "We want to deepen discussions from a broad perspective and reflect a variety of opinions in the development plan.

In December last year, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced the design for civil engineering work around the station (6.5 hectares), which will become the station plaza. The city plans to start the land development work by this fall and hopes to start the design of the building, including a large roof, in the fall of this year.

The Inadani Local Government Conference was held online that day, with Governor Morikazu Abe and mayors of related municipalities exchanging views. The direction of regional development using Inadani's strengths was confirmed. The Secretariat presented a proposal from the perspective of "sustainable environmental symbiosis" and "education and learning utilizing the rich natural environment and unique culture" as a direction for the development of an advanced region that makes the most of its strengths, and viewed Inadani as a region of choice both at home and abroad.

Governor Abe acknowledged that efforts in the Linear Valley Concept Realization Plan have lagged behind, and said that he will "roll back" the efforts by accelerating them in the future.
