Summary of Japanese Media report:
In response to a request from Yamanashi Prefecture and cities and towns along the route to install soundproof hoods on the above-ground section of the Linear Central Shinkansen under construction, Mamoru Uno, vice president of JR Tokai, met with Governor Kotaro Nagasaki and mayors of cities and towns in Kofu City on April 21. JR Tokai informed that noise protecting hoods will be installed on 80% of the above-ground sections of the new maglev line.
Nearly 90% of the distance between Shinagawa and Nagoya is covered by tunnels, but in Yamanashi Prefecture, 27.1 kilometers, or one-third of the 83.4 kilometers, including the experimental line that has already opened, is above ground, the longest of the seven prefectures along the line. According to JR Tokai, a total of 10 locations where hoods cannot be installed due to weak ground or where there are no houses in the vicinity will be covered with soundproof walls. The prefectural linear observation center (Tsuru City) was excluded from the hood installation.
Governor Nagasaki told reporters, "I think this is the best we can do, and I appreciate your sincere response".
