Changing the Maglev route is 'unthinkable'

At a regular press conference on July 21, JR Tokai President Shin Kaneko said that a review of the route of the Linear Central Shinkansen, which is under construction with the aim of opening between Shinagawa, Tokyo and Nagoya, would bring a series of plans back to square one.  86% of the distance between Shinagawa and Nagoya (286 km) will be covered by tunnels. The amount of overburden to be generated is 56.8 million cubic meters, and Gifu Prefecture is expected to generate the most overburden.
