Jag Japan, a japanese election consulting firm, conducted a survey regarding the opinions about the JR Tokai Maglev project in the Shizuoka prefecture. The survey took place from May 28 to 30, 2021.
The Survey method was an Internet panel survey (conducted using Marketing Applications' Surveyoid for the Shizuoka Prefecture residents). A total number of 3,217 people participated in the survey. The Japanese Yahoo Website published an external report on the survey results and interviews.

Here is a summary of major results:

Opinions on the linear railway construction were divided:
  • 24.2% "Construction work should proceed as originally planned"
  • 22.9% "Construction work should proceed by changing the original route"
  • 15.5% "Construction should be halted and the plan should be scrapped"
  • 37,3% "Haven't decided yet/ don't know"

Many of current Governor Kawakatsu's supporters wanted the route to be changed or the project to be cancelled.
The majority of candidate Iwai's supporters said that the construction work should proceed as originally planned.

Comment jok: In this sense, the choice between the two candidates also appears to be a directional decision as to how the Linear Maglev project in Japan (Shizuoka) should be developed further.

Further aspects:

AGE
In terms of age, the percentage of respondents in their 30s and older who answered "construction should proceed as originally planned" was higher than those who answered "construction should proceed by changing the original route," but the percentages were almost the same for those in their 40s and 50s. The percentage of respondents in their 40s and 50s was almost the same, while those in their 60s and above answered that "construction should proceed as originally planned" more than "construction should proceed as originally planned. It can be said that the younger generation has high expectations for the Linear Central Shinkansen, while the older generation tends to strongly demand that the route be changed.

PARTY SUPPORT
By party support, the largest percentage of respondents who answered "Construction should proceed as originally planned" were supporters of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Japan Restoration Association. Supporters of the Constitutional Democratic Party, the New Komeito Party, the National Democratic Party, and the Social Democratic Party were the most likely to say that the construction should proceed as originally planned. Supporters of the Japan Communist Party (JCP) were the most likely to say, "The construction should be stopped and the plan should be scrapped. The largest percentage of respondents, especially among independents, said that the construction work should be carried out by changing the original route.
