Construction of Gifu Prefecture's Linear Shinkansen Station Delayed by 6.5 Years
On December 23, JR Tokai announced a delay in the completion of the Linear Central Shinkansen station in Gifu Prefecture, pushing the original completion date from March 2025 to December 2031, a delay of 6 years and 9 months. The delay is attributed to issues with land acquisition and changes in the design of the elevated bridge for the station.
The station, planned for Nakatsugawa City in Gifu Prefecture, will be a ground-level structure 30 meters high, 45 meters wide, and 1.3 kilometers long. According to JR Tokai's public relations, delays in land acquisition, as well as the decision to change the design of the concrete noise barriers on the bridge from a semicircular to a square shape, have caused the delay. The modification in design resulted in a heavier bridge, necessitating strengthened foundations for the supporting piers, which further delayed construction.
