The Japan Central Railway (JR Tokai) announced that construction on a bridge for the Linear Chūō Shinkansen, which will span the Ko-shibu River in Ōshika Village, will begin in the fall of 2025. The project aims to complete the bridge by June 2030.

A briefing on the project was held on the evening of June 18 in Ōshika Village. The bridge, measuring 200 meters in length, will be constructed over the Ko-shibu River, a tributary of the Tenryū River. The bridge will feature two pylons, each approximately 60 meters high, on either side of the river. To mitigate noise, the upper portion of the bridge will be covered with concrete shields.

Construction of the Linear Chuo Shinkansen's Second Kiso River Bridge Extended Until December 2031 – New Build in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture

On June 30, JR Central (JR Tokai) announced that the construction period for the Second Kiso River Bridge—part of the Linear Chuo Shinkansen project being built in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture—will be extended from the originally planned March 2026 deadline to December 2031. The extension is due to excavation work and other tasks taking longer than expected. JR Central stated that the overall project timeline, with a planned opening sometime after 2034, remains unaffected.

According to JR Central, the Second Kiso River Bridge spans approximately 385 meters and connects the Seto and Komaba districts within Nakatsugawa City. Construction began in March 2021. The delay is attributed to unexpectedly hard bedrock, a high volume of stones, and rising river levels, all of which have slowed progress in excavation within the river and around the bridge piers. Additionally, more time has been needed to prepare work yards and temporary piers used by contractors for construction operations.
