JR Tokai Starts Expanding “Sengoku Yard” in Shizuoka, Clearing Trees for Maglev Prep Works

On Feb. 16, 2026, JR Tokai began expansion work at its Sengoku Yard construction base in the Shizuoka segment of the Chuo Shinkansen (maglev), located in Tashiro, Aoi Ward, Shizuoka City. The company started tree felling that morning, followed by site grading, with plans to install offices for environmental surveys.

The yard expansion follows a Feb. 13 agreement between Shizuoka Prefecture and JR Tokai under the prefecture’s Nature Environment Conservation Ordinance, triggered because the total yard area in Shizuoka Prefecture exceeds 5 hectares, the threshold for regulation.

Tree felling started that morning, and the site will be graded to allow installation of offices for environmental surveys.
