JR Tokai publishes a booklet on the maglev future vision

Unread post by IMB »

What will change with the opening of the new linear line between Shinagawa and Nagoya in 40 minutes

The "Future with Linear Maglev" project was conducted by the JR Tokai company from February 20 to April 24, 2020. An 8-page booklet was created by selecting 30 works from more than 10,000 texts and illustrations submitted to the company's "My Future with the Linear Maglev Project" campaign from February 20 to April 24, 2020. JR Tokai published the booklet on the future vision as part of their maglev marketing campaign.

When the Maglev begins operation, it will connect Shinagawa with Nagoya in just 40 minutes and Shinagawa with Osaka in just 67 minutes. The questions for the project booklet were: When the range of day trips expands, what will we be able to do? How much more time will we be able to spend with our loved ones?
The brochure is divided into five themes: "Encounters with the City," "Encounters with New Ways of Living," "Encounters that Create Possibilities," "Encounters with Loved Ones" and "Illustration Corner."

The small booklet can be downloaded as pdf on the Japanese website of JR Tokai, but it is quite hard to find. Therefore here as pdf document in the attachment.

リニア中央新幹線で毎日はどう変わる? どんな未来になる? いろんな人に聞いてみた
How will the Central Linear Railway change our daily lives? What kind of future will it bring? We asked a lot of people.

When JR Tokai asked people to submit their "vision of the future" for 2020, they received more than 10,000 responses. Some were compiled in a booklet by JR Tokai: "Our Future with teh Linear Maglev". Some of the statements (translation from Japanese) below:

A 72-year-old dairy farmer from Chiba:
For example, if my relatives in Kobe were to get married now, I would have to ask a helper to milk the cows in the morning and evening, otherwise I would never be able to participate. But if I take the Linear, I can milk the cow in the morning, attend the wedding in Kobe, and milk it at night when I return. It will make it easier for people like dairy farmers who can't travel easily to go on day trips.

50-year-old man, Kanagawa Prefecture:
I commute from Hashimoto in Kanagawa Prefecture to Shinagawa. Although it takes me a long time to commute, I feel relieved when I come back to this lush green area and look forward to seeing Lake Tsukui on weekends. The linear railway will connect Hashimoto to Shinagawa in just 10 minutes. I can enjoy the convenience of the city center and the rich nature of Tama as a matter of course.

37-year-old doctor, Tokyo:
Web conferencing is convenient, but it doesn't allow us to share the same temperature. So I always kick off a new project face-to-face. As a busy doctor in a university hospital doing clinical work, research, and education, I am very grateful for the Linear-Central Shinkansen, which allows me to go home at the same time as usual even if I make a day trip to Osaka in the afternoon.

25-year-old female, Nagano Prefecture:
It is sad that people from other prefectures don't come to Nagano to enjoy the natural beauty of Ina, Iida, and Komagane. When the linear railway opens, access to the Ina, Iida, and Komagane areas will become a whole lot easier! If you are tired of your busy life in the city, please come and visit us for some relaxation. I'm looking forward to meeting you in Nagano Prefecture, blessed with nature.

Osaka, 22 years old, male:
In the wake of the new coronavirus, there has never been a day when I have realized the importance of the value of "meeting people directly" as I have now. I envision a future in which people are more familiar with meeting each other directly, and when the Linear-Motorway Central Shinkansen line opens, we will be able to shorten the "physical distance" instead of the "social distance. I envision a future where people can meet each other directly. From Shinagawa, it takes 25 minutes to Kofu, 45 minutes to Iida, and 40 minutes to Nagoya. The words "telework" and "work vacation" have become common these days, and when the Linear-Central Shinkansen starts operation, we can expect to see lifestyles and regional development measures that take advantage of its speed. It will not only make transportation more convenient, but it will also bring about changes in society and lifestyles, and something new may be born.

Summary is based on Tomohito Megumi (Railway writer): , https://trafficnews.jp/post/106370/2 2021.04.11.
