Mayor of Nara and Mayor of Yamato Koriyama make joint request for linear maglev station

Nara City and Yamato Koriyama City to have a single station

On April 21, Motoyasu Nakagawa, mayor of Nara City, and Kiyoshi Ueda, mayor of Yamato Koriyama City, submitted a joint request to Governor Shogo Arai for the establishment of an intermediate station "near Nara City" for the Central Linear Railway. So far, three cities, Nara, Ikoma and Yamato-Koriyama, have announced their intention to invite an intermediate station for the linear central Shinkansen line, which JR Central aims to open between Nagoya and Osaka in 2037. The bid for the station in the prefecture has been proceeding without any unity.

At a regular press conference on April 21, Mayor Nakagawa said, "The candidate sites have not been finalized. This may give the impression that there is a dispute," he said, explaining the reason for submitting the joint request. The city of Ikoma is also welcome to submit a joint request. It does not negate the cooperation. Mayor Ueda also commented, "As a candidate site in the prefecture, we thought it was important to work together in unity.

Nara Maglev station ?

With plans to build a new station on the JR Kansai Line near Hachijo in Nara City, the prefectural government announced on April 21 that it will allocate about 4 billion yen in the initial budget for fiscal 2022 for the construction of the new station and the elevated railway line. The construction work for the elevated line started in September last year, and the project will be in full swing before the line is put into service. The Nara Interchange (tentative name) of the Kei-Nawa Expressway is scheduled to be completed on the east side of the new station, making the area the first place in the prefecture where an interchange and a railroad station will be connected.
The area around the new station is one of the candidate sites for an intermediate station of the Central Linear Maglev Shinkansen Line, and the city's future urban development is attracting attention.

The area around the Hachijo and Daianji districts, located in the southern part of the city, is currently a mixture of rice fields, stores and residential areas. There is still a lot of undeveloped land, and the prefectural and city governments believe that there is a high potential for population growth.

Nara Maglev station location

Unread post by Miss Maglev »

Nara City and Yamato Koriyama City, two of the three cities in the prefecture that have been trying to attract a station to the Linear Central Shinkansen being built by JR Central, have jointly submitted a request to the prefectural government for the early establishment of a station.
The city of Ikoma has expressed its recognition that discussions should be held to consolidate the location of the station.

As for the Central Linear Railway, JR Tokai is working on the early opening of the line between Tokyo and Nagoya, and hopes to start construction of the line to Osaka promptly after the opening of the section to Nagoya.
In the prefecture, three cities, Nara, Yamatokoriyama, and Ikoma, have been trying to attract a "station" for the route from Nagoya to Osaka, since the 2021 development plan states that the route will pass near Nara City.

Last week, Nara City and Yamato Koriyama City jointly submitted a request to the prefectural government for the early establishment of the station, saying, "It is important to work in unison.
Mayor Komurasaki of Ikoma City said that he had been contacted by Nara City beforehand and said, "We share the same desire to have a station in Nara Prefecture, so we have no objection to working toward the establishment of a single location for the station. I don't disagree that we should work to consolidate the sites, but we need to have a thorough discussion on which sites to consolidate.
Nara Prefecture is also calling for an early decision on the location and route of a station for the Central Linear Railway, and plans to step up its efforts to urge JR Central to do so.

Resolution requesting "a new station near Nara City" for the Linear Maglev Line

April 28, 19:59

Nara City and local economic organizations have decided to strengthen their efforts to urge the Central Japan Railway Company (JR Tokai) to locate a new station for the Linear Central Shinkansen Line in the prefecture near Nara City.

The 2011 development plan for the Linear Central Shinkansen Line states that the route from Nagoya to Osaka will pass near Nara City, so Nara, Yamato Koriyama, and Ikoma cities have each been trying to attract a station to the area. Nara, Yamato Koriyama, and Ikoma cities have been promoting the construction of a station in Nara City. In this context, the "Conference for the Promotion of the Establishment of Nara Station for the Linear Central Shinkansen Line," consisting of Nara City and local economic organizations, was held on March 28, and Mayor Nakagawa made a speech, saying, "We would like to take action to attract the Linear Line to Nara for the development of the society and economy of Nara.
At the meeting, a resolution was also adopted, which included the following requests:
▼ The Linear Central Shinkansen line should be fully opened between Tokyo and Osaka at an early date, and
▼ The route via "a station near Nara City" should be fixed at an early date.
Based on the adopted resolution, Nara City will step up its efforts to lobby the prefectural, national, JR Tokai, and other related organizations.

Governor Arai names 3 candidate sites in Nara Prefecture for intermediate station of linear train line

At a meeting held in Nara City on April 29 to discuss domestic and foreign affairs, Nara Governor Shogo Arai listed three locations in the prefecture as leading candidates for the intermediate station of the Linear Central Shinkansen Line, to be located near the city of Nara.

According to the attendees, Governor Arai expressed his opinion that the location of the new station is important in terms of transportation connectivity and the development of the city, and named JR Heijo-yama Station, a new station in the Hachijo and Daianji neighborhoods, and the intersection of Kintetsu and JR lines to the south as the three most important candidate sites.

Nara City, Yamato Koriyama City, and Ikoma City are working to invite the establishment of an intermediate station.

The Japanese government has announced its policy to promote the construction of the Linear Central Shinkansen so that the construction company can start the environmental impact assessment of the Nagoya-Osaka section in 2023, in order to accelerate the full operation of the Shinkansen line. The prefectural government will also promote the advantages of the prefecture, such as transportation connectivity and cooperation in the disposal of waste soil, to ensure the establishment of a station near Nara City.

[JP] Nara Maglev station: Governor Arai speaks out against Ikoma City city

Unread post by Miss Maglev »

Governor of Nara Prefecture "approached three possible sites" for an intermediate linear station in Nara Prefecture.

At a press conference held on April 7, Nara Governor Shogo Arai revealed that he has narrowed down the list to three promising sites for the intermediate station of the Linear Central Shinkansen Line: JR Heijo-yama Station (Nara City) on the border with Kyoto Prefecture, a new JR station near Hachijo and Daianji (Nara City), and the intersection of Kinki Nippon Railway and JR lines in Yamatokoriyama City. The company has revealed that it has approached JR Tokai, the main operator of the project, about the three locations.

The government's "Framework Policy," a guideline for economic and fiscal management approved by the Cabinet in June, clearly states that the government will cooperate with local governments along the route so that environmental impact assessments can be started in 2011. Local governments along the line, including those in Nara and Mie prefectures, have requested that JR Tokai begin environmental assessments in 2011.

Nara City, Yamato Koriyama City, and Ikoma City are working to invite the project to establish an intermediate station in the prefecture, and in addition to the three locations mentioned by the governor, the Ikoma City area and the central city area near JR Nara Station have been mentioned as candidate sites. Governor Arai stated, "I don't think the Ikoma area is realistic because it is too far north for Nara Prefecture and the urban area of Nara City will make underground construction difficult.

Governor Arai said, "It would be good if the site is chosen to maximize the transportation connectivity and development potential of the city.
