Nara City and Yamato Koriyama City, two of the three cities in the prefecture that have been trying to attract a station to the Linear Central Shinkansen being built by JR Central, have jointly submitted a request to the prefectural government for the early establishment of a station.
The city of Ikoma has expressed its recognition that discussions should be held to consolidate the location of the station.
As for the Central Linear Railway, JR Tokai is working on the early opening of the line between Tokyo and Nagoya, and hopes to start construction of the line to Osaka promptly after the opening of the section to Nagoya.
In the prefecture, three cities, Nara, Yamatokoriyama, and Ikoma, have been trying to attract a "station" for the route from Nagoya to Osaka, since the 2021 development plan states that the route will pass near Nara City.
Last week, Nara City and Yamato Koriyama City jointly submitted a request to the prefectural government for the early establishment of the station, saying, "It is important to work in unison.
Mayor Komurasaki of Ikoma City said that he had been contacted by Nara City beforehand and said, "We share the same desire to have a station in Nara Prefecture, so we have no objection to working toward the establishment of a single location for the station. I don't disagree that we should work to consolidate the sites, but we need to have a thorough discussion on which sites to consolidate.
Nara Prefecture is also calling for an early decision on the location and route of a station for the Central Linear Railway, and plans to step up its efforts to urge JR Central to do so.
