Linear Central Shinkansen Line Establishment of National Expert Group on Environmental Preservation

Prime Minister Kishida visited the "Yamanashi Linear Test Center" and test-drove a test vehicle of the Linear Central Shinkansen Line. After this visit, he announced his intention to establish a national expert committee on environmental preservation in the near future, in light of concerns about the environmental impact of the construction of the Central Shinkansen Line. The Central Japan Railway Company (JR Tokai) is aiming to open between Shinagawa and Nagoya in 2027.

Prime Minister Kishida told reporters that the Linear Central Shinkansen is an important core infrastructure that will bring the three major metropolitan areas into a single economic zone, and that it is important to proceed with the project while gaining the understanding of the local governments along the line.

On the other hand, in connection with the difficult discussions between JR and Shizuoka Prefecture, he revealed his intention to set up a national expert panel on environmental preservation in the near future, taking into consideration Shizuoka Prefecture's concerns about the environmental impact of the construction work. The committee will also consider measures to reduce the impact on water resources.

Regarding the environmental impact assessment of the Nagoya-Osaka line, he said, "We would like to provide the necessary guidance and support in cooperation with local governments along the line so that JR Tokai can start the project next year.
