Japan Eyes Maglev Line Environmental Assessment from 2023

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida indicated Saturday that the government is aiming to start next year an environmental impact assessment for the unbuilt section of the planned Chuo Shinkansen magnetic levitation line.
"We will provide guidance and assistance while cooperating with local governments along the train line, so (the assessment) can begin next year, in order to move up the opening of the entire line," Kishida said.

The assessment is seen covering areas between Nagoya Station in Aichi Prefecture and Shin-Osaka Station in Osaka Prefecture.

Linear Central Shinkansen Line Establishment of National Expert Group on Environmental Preservation


Prime Minister Kishida visited the "Yamanashi Linear Test Center" and test-drove a test vehicle of the Linear Central Shinkansen Line. After this visit, he announced his intention to establish a national expert committee on environmental preservation in the near future, in light of concerns about the environmental impact of the construction of the Central Shinkansen Line. The Central Japan Railway Company (JR Tokai) is aiming to open between Shinagawa and Nagoya in 2027.

On the other hand, in connection with the difficult discussions between JR and Shizuoka Prefecture, he revealed his intention to set up a national expert panel on environmental preservation in the near future, taking into consideration Shizuoka Prefecture's concerns about the environmental impact of the construction work. The committee will also consider measures to reduce the impact on water resources.

Governors of Mie, Nara, and Osaka Confirm Promotion of Linear Construction between Meihan and Osaka

Organizations in Osaka, Nara, and Mie prefectures calling for the construction of the Linear Central Shinkansen Line held a convention in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture, on September 6.
