Mie Pref. strategy for Linear Project aims Aiming at Spillover Effects

Jan. 04, 2010 10:38 AM

Mie Prefecture has decided to formulate a basic strategy for the Linear Central Shinkansen line in fiscal 2023, which includes the effective linkage of the existing transportation network with the intermediate stations scheduled to be constructed in the prefecture, as a guideline for spreading the effects of the opening of the line throughout the prefecture.

With respect to the Linear Central Shinkansen Line, which JR Tokai plans to open in 2037, Mie Prefecture proposed three areas in Kameyama City to JR last year as candidate sites for an intermediate station to be constructed in the prefecture.

According to Mie Prefecture, an environmental impact assessment, which is a prerequisite for the start of construction between Nagoya and Osaka, is expected to be conducted this year, and JR is likely to present specific sites for the station as early as this year.
In light of this situation, Mie Prefecture will formulate a "Mie Prefecture Linear Basic Strategy" in FY2023, which will serve as a guideline for spreading the effects of the opening of the Linear Central Shinkansen throughout the prefecture.

According to the prefectural government, the basic strategy includes a vision for the future in terms of effective linkage with existing transportation networks such as railroads and motorways, promotion of tourism, promotion of migration, and attraction of businesses, etc.
