Linear maglev consumes a lot of power and will lead to the construction of more nuclear power plants.
On 23 February, science historian Yoshitaka Yamamoto gave a lecture entitled "The Linear Shinkansen and Nuclear Power Generation" (supported by the Chunichi Shimbun and others) at the Central Public Hall in Matsumoto City. Mr Yamamoto argued that "the Linear Line consumes so much electricity that additional nuclear power plants are needed to operate the Linear Line".
Yoshitaka Yamamoto: "There is no other solution but to cancel the project". [in Japanese: 中止させる以外に解決策はない」と訴えた。]
