Hyperloop China

Unread post by Eurorapid »

The construction of a maglev test line that can handle speeds of up to 1,000 km/h has started in Northern China’s Shanxi. The system is developed by North Univ of China and the Third Research Institute of CASIC. It is a hyperloop concept with low vacuum and magnetic suspension technolgoies.

Construction of 1,000 km/h high-speed maglev railway project starts in North China’s Shanxi
By Global Times Published: May 26, 2021 11:48 AM

China's pursuit of high-speed maglev trains has taken a further step with the start of construction of a test line that can handle speeds of up to 1,000 kilometers per hour in North China's Shanxi Province.

[...]

The high-speed maglev railway, undertaken by North University of China and the Third Research Institute at China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp, leverages low vacuum and magnetic suspension processes.

These technologies mean trains will have the potential to travel far faster than the current 350 kilometers per hour high-speed trains, Chinese media reported, citing Ma Tiehua, dean of North Central University's School of Electrical and Control Engineering.

Ma predicted that the speed of this futuristic transport mode is likely to exceed 1,000 kph, and reach three or four times that level in the future.

[...]

While multiple companies and institutes are working on the niche transport design, some academics have different ideas. This technology can be used for experiments but it is unlikely to be adopted for commercial and engineering projects, Zhao Jian, a professor with Beijing Jiaotong University, told the Global Times on Wednesday.

China commences construction of high-speed maglev test line
North Central University School of Electrical and Control Engineering dean Ma Tiehua was quoted by the publication as saying: “The high-speed train uses superconducting magnetic levitation technology to disengage from the ground to eliminate frictional drag and a near-vacuum internal duct line to dramatically reduce air resistance to achieve travel speeds of more than 1,000km/h.”

[...]

Ma Tiehua added: “Future high-speed trains are likely to exceed 1,000km/h and even reach speeds of 3,000km/h and 4,000km/h.”

As reported by the Science and Technology Daily, the project will start with a full-scale test line in Yanggao County, Datong City.

During the first phase, the test line will extend up to 2km while it will extend to 5km in the next phase.

An inauguration ceremony for a laboratory focusing on low vacuum tube maglev trains took place in the Shanxi city of Datong.Vactrains can reach a speed of more than 1,000 km per hour, much faster than the conventional bullet train that travels at under 400 km per hour.
