Special Event Offers Public a Closer Look at Maglev Construction in Sagamihara
As JR Central continues construction on the Chuo Shinkansen maglev line between Shinagawa and Nagoya, progress is underway at various sites. The first stop from Shinagawa Station, the planned Kanagawa Station (tentative name), is currently being built in the Hashimoto area of Midori Ward, Sagamihara City.
Overlooking the construction site, the “Sagamihara Maglev Plaza” has been set up on a nearby hill and is open to the public on select days. To deepen public understanding—especially among local residents—of the maglev project and ongoing construction, “Sagamihara Maglev Free Zone” will be held as a special one-day event at this plaza. The event is co-hosted by Kanagawa Prefecture, Sagamihara City, and JR Central.
Visitors can enjoy a wide range of live performances, including street acts and music, while taking in views of the maglev construction site. The event will also feature on-site tours from a designated ground-level observation area and a BMX riding experience.
