Power and energy requirement of a pod - peak and, say, kwh per 1000 km.

Hi all,

Just curious how much power and energy does a pod need - peak(kw), and kwh/1000 km?

I understand that we need vacuum but is there any scope of using propulsion system similar to rockets, if not for passenger maybe for freight. Sure, there may be many problems with it. How much we need to carry, safety and weight of the storage(fuel/H2? and O2) at that speed, high temperature exhaust inside the tube, especially with may capsules in convoy mode, maybe corrosion, etc.

Thanks.

No idea, Q2021, and i don't think it is known at all, yet. There are only studies in principle; there is not a single fully functional system in real use. For Maglev systems and HSR it is known.
Strange: The Transrapid Shanghai has been in commercial operation for 20 years at speeds of 430km/h - which these pods still do not reach.

Hi Eurorapid!

So, any idea what are the numbers for maglev, just in case you may have them? Do you think it can use a combustion based propulsion system?

On speed of pods - wonder why you call it strange. I mean, do you foresee any problems or "not yet" hints at any problematic issues, unknown to others?

Thanks.

Thanks IMB. Shall check soon.

Besides, please share if any opinion is possible on use of combustion based systems for propulsion for maglev trains (a reference in the PS).
