Superconducting Maglev Project Update

NEPA Environmental Impact Statement Process Paused
On August 25th, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) paused the environmental review and permitting process to "review project elements and to determine the next steps." What does this mean? In short, it is not uncommon for the NEPA process to pause as it involves the cooperation of more than 40 Federal, State, and Local agencies. Once all agencies are caught up and on the same page, the process will continue. Check in for updates and more information at the official project website.

Growing Support
Over 24,000 Supportive Petition Signers
Support for the Northeast Maglev project continues to grow. To date, more than 24,000 people, including more than 14,700 people from Maryland, have shown their support for the project by signing a petition in favor of the project.

Overwhelming Support in Baltimore City
Recent polling from Lake Research Partners, a leading national public opinion research firm, showed that more than 7-in-10 Baltimore City voters—72%—support the construction and operation of the Maglev, compared to just 13% who oppose it, a margin of support of more than 5-to-1. Read more details about Baltimore City support here, and additional regional support here.

Baltimore Community Leadership Support
In June, Northeast Maglev held a press conference where ardent community support was expressed for the high-speed rail project. The Greater Baltimore Chapter of the National Action Network, the Greater Baltimore Black Chamber of Commerce, the Ministers Conference Empowerment Center CDC, and the Baltimore-DC Metro Building and Construction Trades Council all stood beside Northeast Maglev to show support.
