Linear maglev extension from Shin-Oska to Osaka Itami regional Airport?

　On February 22, the February regular session of the prefectural assembly resumed its budget review special committee meeting (chaired by committee chairman Hitoshi Nishikawa), with Governor Shogo Arai and others invited to attend the meeting for general questioning. During the meeting, the governor presented the idea of extending the western end of the Linear Central Shinkansen Line from JR Shin-Osaka Station to Osaka International (Itami) Airport, which is expected to lead to the development of the prefecture. He said that improving access to the airport is also important for the prefecture, and he intends to propose the idea to JR Tokai and others in the future.

　Mr. Yonezo Koizumi (Liberal Democratic Party, Nara) asked a question related to the establishment of a station near Nara City on the Central Shinkansen Line, which is scheduled to be fully operational in 15 years. Governor Arai said that rather than having the line run parallel to the Hokuriku Shinkansen at Shin-Osaka Station, it would be more cost-effective to have the lines run directly across each other, and that the project would be even more effective if the line were extended northwest to Itami Airport.
