[US] Baltimore - Washington Maglev: Make Your Voice Heard
Make Your Voice Heard for Northeast Maglev
Source: https://thevirtualcitizen.com/northeastmaglev/ Accessed 2025-08-13The U.S. Department of Transportation is asking for public input, and this is our moment to speak up for the future of American transportation.
The Northeast Maglev would bring the world’s fastest, safest, and most sustainable train technology, known as SCMAGLEV, to the Northeast Corridor. It would cut travel time from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore to just 15 minutes and open the door to a one-hour trip to New York. This project would slash traffic, reduce emissions, create tens of thousands of jobs, and position the United States as a leader in transportation innovation.
But without strong public support, this vision could stall. That is why we need you to take action today. In less than a minute, you can send a letter directly to the U.S. Department of Transportation and key decision makers urging them to advance this transformative project.
Your voice matters. Let us make it impossible for them to ignore the demand for clean, fast, and future-focused transportation in America.
Re: [US] Baltimore - Washington Maglev: Call for support
It is uneconomical because it cannot take overnight container trains and the rest of America will not pay for it.

Why should all America spend money on it?

[US] Baltimore - Washington high-speed maglev train project is not happening
Maryland’s high-speed maglev train project is not happening
Source: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/maryl ... r-AA1JWCHE Accessed 2025-08-27Baltimore Washington Rapid Rail is the company that had been slated to develop the project labeled Northeast Maglev. It said the train would have connected Washington, D.C., to Baltimore in 15 minutes at a speed of 311 mile per hour; and a trip between Washington and New York in an hour.
The company said in a statement Friday afternoon the administration’s decision represents a “missed opportunity.”
“The SCMAGLEV would have resulted in over $6 billion in private investment, created more than 160,000 jobs, and replaced 16 million car trips,” the company said. “With cars being the largest source of pollution in Maryland, significant air quality benefits would have been realized. Instead, the Washington, DC metro area will remain number one in the country for the worst traffic, delays, and congestion.”
Besides the company highlighting private investments of nearly $158 million, Northeast Maglev received representation from two of the state’s biggest lobbying firms: Evans and Associates and Manis Canning and Associates, both based in Annapolis.

If it had an overnight underground container train it would not have to be subsidised at all and they would have missed all the surface costs.

Baltimore-Washington Maglev Project Stopped In Its Tracks
Prince George’s Residents and Elected Officials Celebrate the Success of the Decade-Long Effort That Halted the $10 Billion Rail Proposal

Opponents of the Baltimore-Washington Maglev project strongly argued that the project would bring no real benefits to Prince George’s County while causing significant harm. Key concerns included the absence of a station stop in the county, which meant residents would face disruptions without gaining improved transportation for themselves. Opponents warned the project would damage wildlife habitats and green spaces, destroy homes, businesses, and historic sites, and lead to increased noise and energy consumption. Some community leaders viewed the project as environmentally unsuitable, financially risky, and unfair to local neighborhoods, calling it a "shiny, new boondoggle" benefiting outsiders rather than the county.
While supporters hailed the train for its potential to offer ultra-fast, clean transportation linking major urban centers, opponents were primarily focused on the immediate negative impacts on their own neighborhoods and properties. Supportes say that opposition was driven by a desire to protect property values and avoid inconvenience rather than broader environmental or community concerns.

To celebrate their victory, those who opposed the maglev gathered at the Greenbelt American Legion Post 136 on Sept. 15.

It is the same as the NIMBYS in Japan.
There has to be a balance between a demand an a laissez-faire economy said pig iron Bob who was our longest prime minister in Australia.
