China is accelerating its development of maglev (magnetic levitation) technology in preparation for upcoming industry milestones. The state-owned CRRC is advancing a high-speed maglev train capable of reaching 600 km/h, focusing on refining key systems such as infrastructure, vehicle design, and integration. Particular attention is being paid to ride dynamics, magnetic technologies, and operational safety.

Leading universities like Tongji and Southwest Jiaotong are partnering with the industry to conduct in-depth research, build prototypes, and explore paths toward commercial deployment. A new 200 km/h maglev line is also under construction between Changsha and Liuyang, expanding on China’s existing lower-speed maglev network and aiming to improve passenger experience and operational efficiency.

Efforts are also underway to modernize urban and medium-speed maglev systems, with innovations in lightweight design, digital monitoring, and energy-saving technologies. New test sites across the country are supporting rapid development and validation.

These initiatives underscore China’s growing leadership in next-generation rail systems. As noted by Johannes Klühspies, President of the International Maglev Board, the alignment of academic research and industrial innovation is helping China set the pace in global maglev progress.
