May 24, 2025 – Iida City: Symposium to Reevaluate the Maglev Project from Scientific and Regional Perspectives

On May 24, the Japan Scientists’ Association (Nagano Branch) and a local residents' group, “Association to Protect Nature and Living Environments Along the Maglev Route,” will co-host a symposium titled “The Future of the Maglev and Regional Communities” at the Kamigo Community Center in Iida City.

Prompted by the recent delay in the Linear Chuo Shinkansen's opening, the event aims to critically reassess the project from multiple expert angles. Four specialists will present findings on topics including geology, tunnel engineering, and public economics.

The symposium seeks to foster informed public discussion by reexamining the project’s environmental and societal implications using scientific evidence.
