Nevomo Signs MoU to Test Magrail Booster Technology in India
Polish transport technology firm Nevomo said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with DP World and India’s Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) to pilot its Magrail Booster technology on a freight railway in India, marking the first planned commercial use of the system.
The Magrail Booster is designed to fit under existing freight wagons, enabling each car to move independently using magnetic propulsion. Unlike full maglev systems, the technology keeps wheels on the track but provides stronger acceleration — up to 1.5 metres per second squared in initial tests — allowing trains to form and manoeuvre without traditional shunting yards.
The pilot installation will cover about 750 metres of track and will be integrated into live operations to validate the system’s performance. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the MoU gives DP World and DPA early access to the technology once it reaches market readiness.
Nevomo said the system could improve efficiency and flexibility in freight operations by allowing distributed propulsion, faster acceleration, and less reliance on locomotives. However, retrofitting existing wagons with the required technology remains a technical and cost challenge.
The company has previously demonstrated a levitating bogie and a modified freight car in 2023 tests. A separate partnership with Captrain in Germany, announced in 2024 for a “Bremen Magnetic Shuttle,” has yet to show visible progress.
The Indian pilot aims to demonstrate the practicality of integrating maglev-inspired propulsion into conventional rail freight networks, potentially offering ports and logistics operators a more scalable alternative to full maglev or Hyperloop systems.

Sounds a better idea than Hyperloop but I doubt if it stacks up economically to do it to all the railcars.
