The leadership of Northeast Maglev acknowledges public concerns regarding the proposed high-speed maglev train project in Maryland, particularly issues related to environmental impact and potential disruption to local communities. These concerns highlight the importance of completing a full and transparent environmental review process, as required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

NEPA mandates a detailed assessment of how such infrastructure projects affect both the natural environment and surrounding communities. Federal and state agencies have organized public forums, collected community input, and evaluated multiple possible route alignments. This review process is essential to ensure that the final route reflects public input and minimizes disruption.

According to the Maglev president, the maglev project promises significant benefits for the Northeast Corridor. It would allow for 15-minute trips between Washington, BWI Airport, and Baltimore, and just one hour of travel between Washington and New York City. In addition to reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions, the project would reshape how people travel in one of the nation's busiest regions. Importantly, the project is not reliant on state taxpayer funding. Instead, it is financed through private investment, federal infrastructure programs, and international capital.

According to NEPA-related studies, the project is projected to create 123,000 construction jobs, 38,000 professional jobs, and 1,500 permanent jobs, contributing $8.8 billion in wages to the regional economy. It is also expected to remove approximately 16 million vehicles from area highways, significantly improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the Maglev president, by completing the environmental review, all stakeholders will gain the clarity needed to move forward. The project represents a major opportunity for sustainable transportation, economic growth, and regional innovation.
