Shizuoka Governor Yasutomo Suzuki’s approval of construction in the Shizuoka section has strengthened prospects for opening the Shinagawa–Nagoya section of the Chuo Shinkansen as early as 2036. Major station-area projects along the route are now gaining renewed momentum.
At Shinagawa, large-scale transport restructuring will combine the future maglev terminal with expanded regional and airport connections. The Tokyo Metro Namboku Line is being extended from Shirokane-takanawa to a new Shinagawa station, with opening targeted for the mid-2030s.
Keikyu plans to relocate its Shinagawa station facilities to ground level as part of wider reconstruction around the terminal. The project also includes extending the east–west public passage, creating new station-front space, removing three level crossings, and improving connections between areas currently divided by the railway.
At Hashimoto, where the tentatively named Kanagawa Prefecture maglev station is under construction, Keio is considering relocating its station as part of an integrated redevelopment concept. The railway station, transport plaza, surrounding urban districts, and new commercial and innovation functions are being planned together rather than as separate facilities.
In Yamanashi Prefecture, a proposed Fuji Tram connection would link the future maglev station with Mount Fuji. The prefecture aims to establish the station as a gateway to the mountain and expects higher passenger numbers to support more frequent maglev stops. The concept could later expand into a wider regional transport network.
The Chuo Shinkansen is therefore influencing development beyond the construction of the maglev line itself. Shinagawa is being reshaped as a major national and international transport hub, Hashimoto is planning an integrated station district, and Yamanashi is seeking to connect the new line with tourism and regional mobility.
