On September 1, JR Central announced the Chuo Shinkansen maglev line’s planned Kanagawa Prefecture Station in Sagamihara, originally due March 2027, is now expected around spring 2030—a ~3-year delay. The 3.6 km Second Capital Circle Tunnel, from the station’s west end to the Sagami River, is also delayed from September 2026 to September 2029.

Station construction has completed 30 m deep excavation, with interior work progressing, but larger-than-expected soil and rocks caused removal equipment delays. The tunnel’s shield machine is assembled and ready, but land acquisition (segmented surface rights) consent from landowners has stalled the start.
